2011 Schedule*
Week 1 – June 20-24 ALL ABOUT US.. We will turn dough that we make into handprint creations, make a life-size image, check out our fingerprints, and make artistic creations using our names. Field Trip - Children’s Museum of Dover
Week 2 –June 27-July 1 GOING BUGGY! Come with us as we explore the world of insects through cooking, songs, dramatic play and literature. Enjoy wonderful Eric Carle books including: The Grouchy Lady Bug (the state insect of New Hampshire!), The Very Hungry Caterpillar, The Very Quiet Cricket, and more. On Tuesday we will visit the Butterfly Place.
Week 3- July 5-8 HOORAY FOR THE RED, WHITE AND BLUE! Join us as we celebrate our country through songs, stories and art! We will be picking red strawberries at Smolak Farms to use in baking our Stars and Stripes Cake!
Week 4- July 11-15 CASTLE ADVENTURES Enter the magical world of castles, knights, ladies, and dragons! Build a castle, design a coat of arms, decorate a shield, make a magical wand and bake a loaf of Queenie Zucchini Bread. We will visit Higgins Armory in Worcester.
Week 5- July 18-22 DISCOVERING DINOSAURS Take a trip back in time and meet the prehistoric reptiles and gentle giants that roamed the earth. Make your own fossils and dinosaur eggs. Go on a Dinosaur Dig. We will play Carnivores Vs. Herbivores, Hatch –The Dinosaur Eggs Relay and Musical Dinosaur Footprints. We will also visit the new dinosaur exhibit at the Museum of Science!
Week 6 –July 25-29 – THINGS THAT GO... Welcome to the world of transportation. Using recycled materials we will build planes, trains, and trucks! We will visit a magical world of locomotives (and dolls!) at the Train Museum in Wenham.
Week 7 – Aug 1-5 – JUNGLE FEVER- It’s a jungle out there; all adventurers beware! So much out there to see and hear; watch for creatures that might be near! We may see slithering snakes moving in the brush, or find a tree full of monkeys that just won’t hush. We’ll play animal charades and Elephant on Parade. Slithery, slimy and scaly creatures are what we will learn about at Amoskeag Fishways on Tuesday!
Week 8 – Aug 8-12 –UNDER THE SEA – Use creative art, music, movement, water play, books and science to explore the fascinating world of the sea! We will learn about ocean mammals, birds and fish; paint a seascape and make our own “aquariums”. At the Seacoast Science Center we will participate in the hands-on presentation: Tide Pool for Tots.
Week 9 – Aug 15-19 -TREASURE ISLAND- Ahoy Mates! Come join our band of pirates and make the gear you’ll need to share the fun. Dig for buried treasure. Make and eat “Pirate Cuisine”. Go on an adventure -filled treasure hunt. Make a pirate ship and hoist your own “Jolly Roger”! We will explore shipboard life at the Spencer-Peirce-Little Farm in Newbury, MA.
Week 10 – Aug 22-26 – 6 1O, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, BLAST OFF! Think you might want to be an astronaut? Discover the universe in a fun and factual way. Travel to outer space in our classroom-made spacecraft. Get messy making space goop. The scheduled field trip is to the Christa McCauliffe Planetarium where we will see Our Place in Space and tour the museum.
